BB 戦記: SD Bachou Blue Destiny

My first Sangokuden kit!

The Bachou Blue Destiny appears in the BB Senshi Sangokuden 'Senjin Kettou Hen' manga. He is based off of Ma Chao from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and the actor is Blue Destiny Unit 1, which appears in the MS Gundam Blue Destiny side story. Bachou Blue Destiny also appears in a cameo in the Brave Battle Warriors anime as a child in the earlier episodes. He has not appeared yet, but I do hope the anime will cover that part of the story.

In the story, Bachou Blue Destiny has a berserk mode, similar to the EXAM mode of the Blue Destiny Unit 1. This is represented above by the shifting of armor, and a cool feature where the piece with the eye sticker is able to rotate into a fully red sticker. Unfortunately, being a beginner with gloss finish (Krylon), I sprayed it onto the clear piece covering the eyes and it is really frosty, making the red unnoticeable.

The gloss wasn't the only new thing I tried with this kit. The gold was painted with Tamiya gold leaf, which was my first time using Tamiya acrylics. The colour came out really uneven and dirty. I'm not too happy with the result.

I guess there's a first time for everything though. At least I learned some things from this process:

Always sand pieces before painting
Apply primer on translucent or dark pieces before painting
Do panel lining AFTER painting kits
Spray thin gloss coats, one at a time

I bought this kit as a set of five, which includes this shoulder armor to replace the one that he has. In the story, Bachou Blue Destiny was part of the Gokosho, or the five tiger generals in the original Romance of the Three Kingdoms story. Each member of the Gokosho, during the fight with Kaku Ashtaron, is powered up by being endowed with a different part of the Ryukihou (literally the glorious dragon treasure). This is Bachou Blue Destiny's Ryukihou part.
